The Choking Game

by Jason Rossi 23. February 2010 15:27

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, choking kills more than 100 kids every year.  And roughly HALF those deaths are food-related.
Now the group is asking the federal government to make changes in the way food is designed to reduce children's chances of choking.  And they're also asking for warning labels on certain "high-risk" foods, including:

Hot dogs

Marshmallows

Peanuts

Popcorn

Gum

And other candy

A spokesman for the Food and Drug Administration says the agency will review the group's analysis and recommendations.

I touch myself... and its good for me!

by Jason Rossi 23. February 2010 15:24

If you're under the impression that sexually pleasuring yourself is somehow bad for you, a group of researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign want you to know that's not true.
In fact, according to a new study, going to town on your junk is actually GOOD for your mental, physical and social health for several reasons.  Check it out:

#1.)  It provides a healthy sexual outlet for people who are abstaining from sex.

#2.)  It allows those who aren't ready for sex to experience sexual pleasure.

#3.)  It promotes safe sex by guarding against pregnancy and the spread of STDs.

#4.)  It can help alleviate premenstrual tension for women.

#5.)  It can help women learn how to climax.

#6.)  It can help men learn how to control their "evacuation."

#7.)  And it increases blood flow to the genitals, which improves overall sexual functioning.

You can get more information about the study here . . .

I Kissed a Metal and Got Kicked out of the Olympics

by Jason Rossi 22. February 2010 13:36
A U.S. Snowboarder Was Sent Home For Letting Some Chicks Bite And Kiss His Medal
U.S. snowboarder SCOTT LAGO won a Bronze medal in the Halfpipe event last week.  Then he decided to use his medal to help PICK UP CHICKS.
Lago wore his bronze medal and a Team U.S.A. t-shirt while partying in Vancouver late Thursday night.  And TMZ got photos of him allowing an Olympic party chick to BITE his medal while he held it.
Then Lago and the girl decided to take it a step further.  He put the medal around his WAIST, and she kneeled to kiss it while it dangled down the front of his pants.

Lago arrived back in the States on Saturday, but he didn't seem too torn up by the controversy.  He wrote a post on Twitter saying, quote, "Keeping my medal in a safe spot for now haha."  (TMZ and The Washington Post)

After hearing this story I thought of Kissing and (well after the pictures many other things but mostly) metal and what song could tie this together and the Gods of Youtube pointed me to this gem....

STP A Mix Away

by Jason Rossi 16. February 2010 09:46

In a recent interview with Spin, Stone Temple Pilots guitarist Robert DeLeo says the band's long awaited new album is in the final mixing stages.

"We just finished the last two songs at my home studio, and we're going through the editing process and getting everything sounding tasty," DeLeo said in January. "A gentleman by the name of Chris Lord-Alge, who actually mixed a song of ours back in early 2000 called 'All in the Suit That You Wear', will mix the new album."

A release date for the new album is expected to be announced soon, with a full tour expected this summer.  As for the sound of the new album, DeLeo says fans can look for the same signature sound that made STP one of the biggest bands of the 90's, but this album will have a heavy influence from 60's rock.

"We know what STP sounds like -- we have a sonic blueprint," says DeLeo of the album's overall sound.  "There's a song called "Between the Lines," which musically is like Paul Revere and the Raiders, with that '60s sound that I've always been a fan of."

Your first chance to hear STP's new album might be later this spring when the band plays their first show of 2010 on May 23rd in Camden, New Jersey.  The show is part of an early summer bash held by local station WMMR and will also feature Alice In Chains, Re-Fueled, Three Days Grace, and Skillet.

White in the sky

by Jason Rossi 10. February 2010 16:00

The White Stripes say the Air Force Reserve used one of their songs without permission in a Super Bowl ad, and that they are insulted their song was used to encourage recruitment during a war they don't support.

The two-member band, which is originally from Detroit, said the ad made unauthorized use of their song "Fell in Love With a Girl."

"The White Stripes support this nation's military. ... We simply don't want to be a cog in the wheel of the current conflict," the band said in a statement posted to its Web site.

"The White Stripes take strong insult and objection to the Air Force Reserve presenting this advertisement with the implication that we licensed one of our songs to encourage recruitment during a war that we do not support." They did not specify which war.

The Air Force Reserve, in a statement, denied the song was the White Stripes' and said it had hired a company through its advertising agency to score original music for the commercial.

Take a listen.. and what do you think?

New Music Tuesday on Radio 929

by Jason Rossi 9. February 2010 12:26

Alice in Chains – Your Decision
Jerry Cantrell and the boys are back, a bit older but they still have that edge to them which made them one of the most popular bands of the 90's.  In this power ballad AIC sing about the ball being in your court and how deal with that.  This solid song is one that could rank high on AIC resume and I truly believe this could be the sound of future ballads this decade.

Muse – Resistance
America welcome to the  Muse craze which has been sweeping the planet for years. This song has that epic riding a horse in the dessert feel, but at the same time is a romeo and Juliet story. Its about to lovers who cant be together for some reason or another. Muse tunes into their inner queen with the backup vocals. The song rock as does the band …. Welcome to the States!

Weezer – I'm Your Daddy
The second single off of Raditude is a poppy rocking party song about a cool chick that can just might be able to get.  Weezer has a way of singing for the geek but being cool and not as annoying as say a Fall out Boy(who broke up BTW). Weezer's heart of the sleeve shine in this with lines like:

I would like to give a demonstration
Of what it is I do
I'll take you out to dinner at Palermo's
We'll split a cheese fondu

True fact about this song Rivers wrote these lines
This ain't believable
This ain't predictable
You are my baby tonight
And I'm your daddy

after his daughter was born early and they had to keep her in the incubator for much longer than most new borns.

How does Rivers write such a meaning full line then turn it into a goofy pop song.... the answer. That's Weezer for you.

Rock Quote of the Day

I really haven't had that exciting of a life. There are a lot of things I wish I would have done, instead of just sitting around and complaining about having a boring life. So I pretty much like to make it up. I'd rather tell a story about somebody else. - Kurt Cobain
