Top 92(.9) of the 2000's

by Jason Rossi 30. December 2009 09:06

So we here at Radio 929 are counting down the top 92 songs of the past decade starting New Years Eve at 5pm going through New Years day. (quick note Google image search “Top 92” and you wont be disappointed) So what songs to you think deserve to be atop the list?

My favorites from this decade that I think should be high on the list is

Audioslave- “Like a Stone” The best song of the decade with the great vocals of Chris Cornell, slashing guitar riffs of Tom Morello, and solid lyrics.

Jimmy Eat World “The Middle” Song got me through High School (story for another time) These underrated alt-rockers struck goal with this highly popular song.

Lifehouse “Hanging by a Moment” Was there a bigger song this decade? Everyone knows this song by heart. Everyone from the age of 92(.9) to new born babies.

Those are my picks what are yours? Vote now at http://www.myradio929.com/InsideRadio929/Contests/list.aspx

Give their fans Hell

by Jason Rossi 29. December 2009 09:02

Tweeters of the tweet, if you' re a follower of  All American Rejects front man Tyson Ritter (http://twitter.com/tysonritteraar) you might have saw that there could be a riff (no pun intended) in AAR camp. Ritter Tweeted "Just walked out on dinner with Wheels(Guaitarist Nick Wheeler). I'm over this shit." Then Wheeler tweeted "Fed up with Ty and his BS...I'm out! Forever." unless BS is some sort of sexualtransmitted diease it looks like the All American Rejects might be rejecting themselves.
No one has made anything offically, and the band is still the headliner for the 2010 Warped Tour. I'll keep you up to date with nay info I see.

As for Twitter, if you're a tweeter follow us at Radio 929 http://twitter.com/Radio929

Here could be the theme song to the the All American Rejects byt the All American Rejects

Key facts about this holiday shopping season

by Jason Rossi 27. December 2009 10:10

Spending: holiday shoppers have brought retailers a mildly positive season.

Spending through Dec. 19 is tracking a little below the 1.6 percent growth forecast by shoppertrak, a research firm that monitors sales and traffic at more than 50,000 outlets. Sales had been in line with modest expectations but were derailed by the winter storm that slammed the east coast this past weekend.

Stores on making up the sales loss in the final surge in the days before Christmas.

Discounts: retailers offered lots of aggressive promotions heading into the season.

However, they didn't order nearly as much merchandise as last year, so they didn't have cut prices drastically beyond what they had planned. Many shoppers with memories of last year were left waiting for 80 percent or 90 percent discounts that never came.

Retailer profits: those low inventories should protect retailers' bottom lines, a big turnaround from a last year's bleak holidays that led prominent sellers like circuit city stores inc. into bankruptcy

Those facts weren't what I thought after shopping at the malls over the past month, but maybe all those people were just there to hang out and bother all us shoppers. Now here is a funny video to completely distract you:

30 Seconds to FAME

by Jason Rossi 23. December 2009 09:50

From Alternitive Addiction.com: This is War, the new 30 seconds to Mars record, is different than the band’s previous two records- stop if you’ve heard this before. Don’t most bands claim each record is different? So you decide if this is different.

Who else invites 1,000 fans to sing chorus on a song? Who else records chants, whisperings, even the sound of a Hawk outside their house to mix in with their music? This Is War even featured 2,000 different album covers featuring individual photos of fans from around the world. The band asked fans to submit pictures of themselves, and then selected the 2,000 best images. The images were then used as covers for the album itself and shipped randomly to stores around the world.

When you have four years between records, you can afford to be a little more creative, and that’s what 30 Seconds to Mars has done.

"We even recorded (the sounds of) a hawk that lives above us. That’s in the beginning of ‘Kings and Queens.’ We recorded crickets, everything. Conversations were recorded with friends," drummer Shannon Leto told Alternative Addiction. "We wanted to show who we are. This album does that. This album is definitely letting people into our world. It’s a lot different than our last two albums."

The time between to two records and the issues with their label helped the band tap into their creative vibe.

"We didn’t have a label for a really long time so we were making, we actually did the album at my brother’s and I house. We paid for it. It was all us and so that allotted us the time. There’s no deadlines, and we could create and express ourselves for a longer period of time," Leto said. "Having that time allowed us to fully, fully express ourselves, and just pour everything that we had inside ourselves into the art."

Recording the album at a house not only gave 30 Seconds to Mars a different sound, it gave them the freedom to go after the sound they were searching for no matter how long it took.

"We have a one song called ‘Night of the Hunter.’ it took 10 days to get the drum sound. I wasn’t happy. I wanted a specific sound," Leto said. "And on another song we listened back to it and we heard dishes being washed in the background so we just kind of felt like it should remain there. There’s moments of true intimacy, moments of true rawness and there’s other songs that are more poignant and explosive and we have electronic songs."

It’s been quite a ride since 30 Seconds to Mars released the platinum selling "A Beautiful Lie" in 2005. Since then, the band was sued by its record label for a whopping $30 million. The suit was settled in April of 2009 and 30 Seconds to Mars then released "This Is War" in early December. It sold over 67,000 units in the United States, entering the Billboard 200 at the No. 18. The album had debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Alternative Albums chart.

"It took a couple years to make the record and a lot happened during those years. We were being sued for $30 million dollars. We had a new president so that was an amazing thing that was going on, an important thing," Leto said. "We had an economic fallout so the record that we were recording reflects that. It represented a time in our life. You can hear that in the album. Right now we’re touring, we’re doing the Christmas shows and preparing for the world tour next year."

30 Seconds to Mars began their winter tour in Salt Lake City In November and they will continue through December before embarking on a world tour that begins in England in February.

"It’s pretty cool man. It’s definitely a live album. We wanted to bring the audience a little bit closer to us. So far to me it seems like we’re succeeding with that. We’ve always been interested in the people who listed to our music. We do things to support that. My brother came up with the idea of having 2,000 different album covers so people got the first couple 1,000 people could send in the photos and be on the album and be on the CD."

They band opened the door to their fans, and in appreciation their fans are responding.

Rocking Boston… Anyone?

by Jason Rossi 19. December 2009 11:54

Spin magazine just put out there list of top 30 concerts of 2009. So I read through and was waiting to see a Boston show make the list, and I waited and waited. I read how The Killers show was best in Denver.. ok I guess if you like the whole thinner air thing(and m thoughts on the Killers are less than Killer). Then I see No Doubt’s Atlantic City show was better than there Boston (well Mansfield date).. ok.. I see why…. you can’t gamble in Mansfield. The one that hurt was Green Day’s Seattle date beating their Garden show. They explain it was their first show, but I don’t care, Green Day rocked Boston harder than anyone probably would have imagined.

So did a Boston show make the top 30?  Yes! OOOO but wait, it was (fad) Lady GaGa. Thanks Spin for making city’s like Toronto your go-to rock spot for concerts over Boston. Happy Holidays,… you S*^#*&  H*^#@! (I don’t know what I was trying to say either, but it wasn’t pleasant.)

Here is the list: http://spin.com/gallery/30-biggest-concerts-2009?page=18#main

Brady Baby

by Jason Rossi 9. December 2009 15:42
Source: Gisele Bündchen & Tom Brady Have a Boy
From People.com
There's another Brady in the bunch.
Sources tell PEOPLE that Gisele Bündchen and husband Tom Brady welcomed a baby boy. Details of the birth and the baby's name have not been disclosed.
Bündchen, 29, and New England Patriots quarterback Brady, 32, were married in a private ceremony in February in Los Angeles. In April, they held a follow-up wedding for friends and family at Bündchen's Costa Rican estate.
The child is the first for the Brazilian supermodel. Brady has a 2-year-old son, Jack, with actress Bridget Moynahan.
Brady had said earlier this month that he was aware of the baby's gender, but that Bündchen preferred not to know.
"She's a very intelligent woman," he said. "I wanted to find out and she didn’t, so she said, 'Go ahead.' It will be a surprise for her."

Rock Quote of the Day

Actually, we're a complete fraud. We
can't sing, play or write songs, we get
other people to do it for us. We also
pay radio stations lots
of money to tell kids to buy our
records and wear clothes like us.
-Eddie Vedder
