How The Mighty Have Fallen

by Jason Rossi 28. September 2009 13:57

It was the late 80's and the never talked about Seattle music busted out like a fat guy's gut taking off under armor.

The scene was entitle “grunge” and these young dirty rockers where singing about there a wanting to be free, acceptance, & overall hate towards life.

Bands that you know and love that came out of the scene were,Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, & Soundgarden. There were numerous other small bands that had some main stream success, but they never stuck.... neither did “grunge”

As the years pasted and bands like Nirvana and Alice in Chains stopped making records, the grunge scene faded. I don't know if artist took happy pills or if it was the British invasion of the late 90s, but  grunge records were heard less and less in the mainstream.  Then the deaths of Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley really put in end to the era for good.

Now a days Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam are releasing Rock albums leaving their grunge roots behind.
Backspacer the latest from Pearl Jam is a 34 minute straight forward rock album with a rather radio friendly tracks front to back.

So next time you have a cold one pour some out for our fallen grunge friends.

Smells like Law Suit Spirit

by Jason Rossi 23. September 2009 13:13

You've seen it in the news and magazines, you heard about it on the radio, or maybe just maybe this is the first you've heard that there is a Kurt Cobain avatar in the new Guitar Hero.  Sounds cool right?  Well think of it this way... would you want to use the Beatles avatars and have them play “All the Small Things” by Blink? Without being a tool the answer is no!
So that is the problem some folks are having with the likeness of Kurt Cobain. In the game if you unlock him you can use him and play any song with him as the singer. Now Guitar Hero has done this before, with Slash, the devil, & the biggest tool in the music business Billy Corgan.
Here is an article on FooFighters.com
This is a statement regarding Nirvana, Guitar Hero and the likeness of the late Kurt Cobain.

We want people to know that we are dismayed and very disappointed in the way a facsimile of Kurt is used in the Guitar Hero game. The name and likeness of Kurt Cobain are the sole property of his estate – we have no control whatsoever in that area.

While we were aware of Kurt’s image being used with two Nirvana songs, we didn’t know players have the ability to unlock the character. This feature allows the character to be used with any kind of song the player wants. We urge Activision to do the right thing in “re-locking” Kurt’s character so that this won’t continue in the future.

It’s hard to watch an image of Kurt pantomiming other artists’ music alongside cartoon characters. Kurt Cobain wrote songs that hold a lot of meaning to people all over the world. We feel he deserves better.

Courtney Love has also said that she is very upset with the whole situation.
What are your thoughts? Do you even care?
P.S. The Foo Fighters have a new greatest hits album coming out on 11/3 that features “Wheels” a new tune on Radio 929

What Jersey Will I Wear Now That It's Football Season?

by Jason Rossi 10. September 2009 16:32

So with the NFL kicking off tonight and the Patriots this Monday, I have but one question for you... ARE YOU READY FOR  SOME FOOTBALL?

My answer was .. not yet. Well not until I buy a new Patriots jersey.  With the recent retirement of Tedy Bruschi ( I'm welling up thinking about it) whose jersey I have been wearing since the 05 season. I have always wore a jersey during Pats games, Before Bruuuuu it was Adam “Benedict” Vinatieri. So I traveled down to the Beautiful Patriot Place in Foxboro in search of a new jersey to wear.

My requirements are:
The player I like and respect.. not one who holds out, or puts the team in an awkward position.
A player that is a long term guy (I will contradict myself shortly)
& A Good Patriot!

So while having that all in mind I searched through the Pro Shop.
I saw Brady (Nah, I am too much of a Bledsoe guy and at this point its like wearing pink hat), Welker (Nah, another Pink hat qualifier), Mayo (Not ready to make that leap), Seymour (See ya later!), Moss (I would make him embarrassed, although I have underrated hands), and then I saw the One for me.

Logan Mankins, he is tough, rugged, a mans man, and now will have his jersey wore by me.  Since becoming a football fanatic around 1996, I have never really cared about lineman it was about Running backs and quarterbacks. Then came Mankins who I love to watch plow through defenses.

Here is my prediction for the 2009 New England Patriots. A record of 12-4, AFC East Division Champions. I want to say they will win it all but I am way to superstitious( I cant even watch the games with my friends due to this). My hopes are high for the season and I hope all ends well for them.

I'll be the guy with the # 70 jersey on... stop by and say 'hi”

New Music Tuesday

by Jason Rossi 8. September 2009 14:45

Muse “Uprising” - When did Marilyn Manson  and Katy Perry team up with Muse to make Muse's latest song? I don't know what it is but Uprising sounds a bit like “I Kissed A Girl” … well at least the intro does, and Muse frontman Matt Bellamy sounds a tad like Marilyn Manson for the better part of the song. Agree or Disagree, one thing that cant be denied is that Muse is making there push to become a big time arena rock act here in the states.  I read in Spin magazine who they proclaimed themselves as “the biggest band America doesn't know about”, Muse do you not remember with such a confident   comment did for Oasis here in the states?  The song kicks ass and you'll hopefully be seeing Muse come to the Garrrrden real soon.

Alice in Chains “Check My Brain”- Yes its Alice in Chains and they are BACK! “Black Gives Way To Blue” is their first studio album in 14 years, and the first single “Check My Brain” is a wave of sound that does in one ear... wrecks your insides and hopefully makes its way out of you... somehow. In other words the song is rocking tune that has a heart beating baseline that doesn't quit all song. Is there a bad song that mentions California?

Weezer “(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To”- Weezer just had new music? Why are they already releaseing new stuff? … The real question is why are we used to bands making an album and then waiting 2 or 3 years for a new one. I love when I band is actually working on new stuff round the year. Weezer's new song is just a happy go lucky song about a man and his now wife … autobiographical? I love the use of Titanic, Best Buy, & the greatest word ever used Chickadees.
I also love the use of the glass bottle sound during the breakdown.

Radio 929 is rocking with these new songs and much more music, and of course less blah blah blah.

This is Why (I'm) Your Fat

by Jason Rossi 2. September 2009 16:48

Breaking News, 17 car pile up on Route 1 North Danvers several found death the other found dying in hunger.

This is what you'll be reading on Boston.com if we are not all careful. It's freaking Sonic after all they sell fast food not the cure to cancer. The sad thing is I bet if they did sell the cure for cancer I could still get there and back within an hour.

I sent our Street Dweller Chuck to Sonic @ 4pm yesterday to get Sonic for the crew, thinking it would take about 2 hours with traffic. Next thing you know its 630 and Chuck calls me and says he is coming back because what appeared to be the order window was just a regular window and he was still like 17 cars back.

So why are all these people folking to Sonic like its the greatest thing since.... ooo wait it s those damn Ads we have seen for the past three years.

To those of you in line using the internet, (because you've been in line longer than my work day) here is the link you should check out.

http://thisiswhyyourefat.com/

Sad thing is, some of that stuff sounds good right about now.

Well thankfully I don't live too north of the city so my ride is only as the Titanic movie not the Godfather ALL THREE!

Rock Quote of the Day

Actually, we're a complete fraud. We
can't sing, play or write songs, we get
other people to do it for us. We also
pay radio stations lots
of money to tell kids to buy our
records and wear clothes like us.
-Eddie Vedder
